Shake your groove thang!

   Last weekend we traveled to St. Louis to celebrate a friend's wedding. It was a ton of fun! I saw a sorority sister, Adam's college roommate was the one getting married and my parents were invited too!

   I was also able to meet up with Katie. She's a new friend from Illinois that I "met" through cloth diapering. She also has a son about 7mos younger than Harrison. We had a great time eating lunch with them!

   The weather was a bit cool and rainy so we unfortunately didn't make it to the zoo. The absolute BEST part of the weekend was the wedding reception. The reception hall was perfect! It was in the cutest neighborhood in "The Hill" area of St. Louis. The food was awesome and the photo booth was hilarious! However Harrison's favorite part was the DJ, the lights and the music!

   Harrison was all over that dance floor. He was swaying, stomping, clapping and dancing. He put on quite the show.

   Thank god Harrison slept like a dream both nights and some on the car ride home. We're so glad we were able to make such a special wedding. Adam was really pumped to see some of his Rockhurst buds.

Cloth diaper update!

   Well it's been almost 1 year since I decided to try cloth diapers. You thought I forgot to give an update, didn't you? Nope, I'm here and happy to report we're using cloth about 90-95% of the time.

   We have finally found ourselves a rhythm and are doing wonderfully! I use Bum Genius one size pockets for daycare. I put three diapers and one small wetbag in Harrison's daycare backpack. I have given our babysitter diaper liners to help prevent #2 messes. That part is working awesome!! I only have to do laundry every three days!

   Sure they make Harrison's butt look big, but they're SO cute! At home, we've mostly been using Goodmama one size fitted diapers (thanks again Audrey!). Since these do require a cover when under clothes, we let Harrison run around in just a diaper and his shirt. If we go out to run errands, I will usually put a Bum Genius back on so I don't have to mess with a diaper cover.

   All in all, it's really not that bad. Poop is smelly and annoying no matter which type of diaper you use. The laundry is about the same as just doing clothes except I use a couple rinse cycles to make sure all the detergent is washed out. I have noticed a decrease in our diaper trash. And I'm not buying diapers as often anymore! I also have some cloth wipes but I haven't been brave enough to test those out yet.

   So I think we're going to keep this party going. I can't complain. I'm helping the earth and my kid looks ridiculously cute while doing so. Thank goodness Adam's on board and we've found ourselves a nice routine.

9/11/11

   Today marks the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. I remember it all. I remember what I was doing, where I was going, and that unsettling feeling of fear. Even though I was not directly affected, I still felt the impact of this national disaster. I would like to take this time to say thank you to all of our men and women in uniform that helped us that day and continue to help preserve our nation. I can't believe it's been 10 years.

   Adam had to work today but Harrison and I tried our best to have a wonderful day! We put on our red, white and blue loaded up the Chevy Tahoe and headed to Deanna Rose Farmstead to meet Grandma M. 

Of course we fed the goats!!

   Since football was on, we lucked out and the Farmstead wasn't too crowded. We continued our American tribute and had PB&J sandwiches, cheetos, and I had a fruit slushy from Taco Bell. We saw all of our favorite animals and of course spent most of our time with the goats. What could be more American than goats!

   We finished the trip with ice cream in a waffle cone. On the way home, Bruce Springstein's "Born in the USA." We had a great day remembering and enjoying family time.

Mullet no more

   It is interesting to see how different people react to certain baby situations. For instance, when should your baby get their first haircut? Do you chop it the second it gets too shaggy or do you drag it out - loving on the baby fluff/curls? I am one to keep the hair nice and neat. Adam kept telling me to wait. Who would have known? Anyway, Saturday Aug. 27th we went for it. The baby mullet was too much.

   In case you missed the memo, Harrison's hair always stands straight up. It's his trademark. We get the most comments about his hair when we're out... "Oh my daughter's hair did that forever..." "My hair used to stick up too as a baby..." It's great and all to talk to other people, but the kid's almost 18 mos. It's time for some hair that lays down. I was hoping the haircut might help our cause. Yeah no, it still sticks up but our baby mullet has been remedied.

   We took Harrison to Miss Jessica for his first haircut. She's great!! She cuts my hair and sometimes Adam when he has time to schedule an appointment. Miss Jessica had lots of suckers and was very patient with us. Adam was worried about cutting too much off so we just cleaned up around the ears, trimmed his front and released the mullet into the wild. 

Why is the sucker so far from me? Hmm??

   Harrison was awesome! The sucker was just the trick. The poor cover was covered in sucker slobber but whatever. He didn't (really) squirm and he for sure didn't cry (until Daddy threw the sucker away...).

Whoa lady! That's what you're using. Thank goodness for my sucker distraction.

   So check it off the list - FIRST haircut!! Our little man is so grown up! My favorite part was when Miss Jessica asked if Harrison needed any product in his hair. We declined. I'm not sure I'm ready to give up the fluff so soon. I mean I just parted with the baby mullet! We left with trimmed hair and some hair started to stick up:0)

I'm so good!! Well, as long as the sucker is close by.

New Trick!

   This isn't anything too crazy but Harrison's new trick... Talking on the phone. He even walks over to our house phone when it rings. We haven't exactly got the talking thing down but he can hold the phone up to his ear.

Gotta keep my drink close with all the talking I'm doing.

   Yep. Super big time now. He can make and take his own calls now. He even has his iPhone. Well it looks like one. I love that he holds it backwards to his ear. He also raises his shoulder up to his ear when he's taking a call:0)

   We're still working out the kinks like holding the phone the right way. Oh well. One step at a time.

Hey Chiefs guy! Answer the phone! I'm calling in the next play. It might help!

   I'm just happy that now he doesn't have to play with Mommy's phone all the time. Okay but really, he knows how to unlock my iPhone. I don't think my mom knows how to do that. Totally gifted.
